Authorship and Contributorship

Authorship and Contributorship

Librarianship and Information Organization Studies adheres to publication ethics principles, international guidelines, and in particular the recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) in defining authorship criteria.

Authorship Criteria

Authorship is granted only to individuals who have made a meaningful scholarly contribution to the research. According to the ICMJE criteria, authors must satisfy all four of the following conditions:

  1. Substantial contribution to the research: Contribution to the conception and design of the study, data acquisition, or data analysis and interpretation.
  2. Manuscript drafting or critical revision: Drafting the manuscript or revising it critically for important intellectual content.
  3. Final approval: Approval of the final version of the manuscript prior to submission or publication.
  4. Accountability: Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work and to ensure that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.

All authors must meet these four criteria and share collective responsibility for the content of the manuscript.

Corresponding Author

At least one author is designated as the corresponding author. The corresponding author is responsible for managing all formal communication with the journal throughout the submission, peer review, revision, and publication processes.

The corresponding author must also ensure that:

  • All eligible authors are included in the author list;
  • All authors have approved the final version of the manuscript;
  • The order of authorship has been agreed upon by all contributors;
  • Their contact information remains accurate and up to date throughout the process.

Unacceptable Authorship Practices

The journal strictly opposes any form of authorship misconduct. The following practices are not acceptable:

  • Honorary Authorship
  • Gift Authorship
  • Ghost Authorship
  • Unjustified addition or removal of eligible authors

Individuals who have contributed to the research but do not meet the authorship criteria must be acknowledged in the Acknowledgements section.

Contributorship

To enhance transparency, the journal encourages authors to specify each contributor’s role using the CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) when applicable. These roles may include conceptualization, methodology, data analysis, writing and editing, supervision, and funding acquisition.

Artificial Intelligence and Authorship

Artificial intelligence tools and generative language models cannot be listed as authors or co-authors, as they are unable to take responsibility, ensure accountability, or approve the final version of a manuscript.

Details regarding the use of artificial intelligence in research and manuscript preparation are provided in the journal’s “Artificial Intelligence Use Policy”:

Changes in Authorship

Any changes to the author list (addition, removal, or reordering of authors) after submission are only permitted upon request by the corresponding author, accompanied by written consent from all authors, and are subject to editorial review and approval.

After final acceptance, changes to authorship are only considered under exceptional circumstances and must be supported by documented justification.

In cases of authorship disputes, the journal will act in accordance with the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
