Abstract

Purpose: Determining the extent to which, as well as the variety of metadata standards are
used in the process of digitization Persian manuscripts in databases of the National Library
of Iran, Parliamentary Library of Iran, Aastaan Qods Library, Malek Library and Museum.
Design/Methodology/Approach: a checklist was employed to collect, and statistics was
used for analysis of data.
Findings: Metadata Encoding and Transmission Standard (METS), Dublin Core (DC)
and Metadata Object Description Standard (MODS), are used respectively in Persian
manuscripts databases.
Conclusion: In descriptive parts as well as notes consistency was not found in employing
standards. Attention must be paid to correct the situation. Setting up a centre for coordination
is suggested.
