Purpose: Surveys high-school libraries in Kermanshah province, regarding area, budget, facilities and equipment, staff, collection, and services. Also compares the present status of libraries with “IFLA Standards for School Libraries.”
Methodology: All high schools in Kermanshah province covered. Data was collected by questionnaire. Descriptive statistics including frequency, frequency percentage, and mean were used to analyze the data.
Findings: 81 percent of schools have libraries, however, only 9 percent are managed by trained librarians. High number of libraries (92%) do not have allocated budgets. Libraries generally are very small and most of them do not have reading areas. Collections are poor when compared with IFLA standards. Only 6 percent provide the Internet access.
Conclusion: High-school libraries in Kermanshah province are far below IFLA standards in all aspects; They face serious challenges.
Originality/value: The results present inefficiencies of high-school library service in Kermanshah province and how they could be improved.
