Comparison of Acquisition Modules in RASA and SAFAM Library Applications: Proposing a Model

Abstract

Purpose: Evaluates acquisition modules of two library applications, namely RASA (used in National Library of Iran) and SAFAM (used in Astane-Qods Library).
Method/ Design: Data was collected using a checklist developed through examining a wide range of existing library software and relevant literature. The checklist was validated by experts in the field. Final criteria were classified into eight categories consisting of 203 features. Relative significance of each component and feature was decided by experts using a 6-point scale
Findings: SAFAM was 76% and RASA was 62% compatible with the criteria. In SAFAM, all of the 8 components in the checklist were included, but only 6 of were available in RASA. The two components absent in RASA included funding and claiming. Features of the finance and billing, budgeting, and resource claiming components with a score of 6 were more importance. Search and agent (dealer) components ranked second with a score of 5.7. Resource ordering component scored 5.1 and ranked third. Features of general ability and resource with a score of 4.9 stayed in the fourth place.
Conclusion: Important features and components of an acquisitions module are identified.
