The Factors Affecting the Use of the Central Library of the Islamic Azad University of Yazd from the Viewpoint of Electrical Engineering Undergraduate Students of this University

Abstract

Purpose: This study attempts to identify the factors affecting the extent to which students use the central library of the Islamic Azad University of Yazd (called Allameh Mohammad-Taqi Ja’fari Library).
Design/Methodology/Approach: The study was carried out as a descriptive-exploratory survey. The required data were collected through a researcher-made five-point Likert scale questionnaire containing 22 questions. The study population consisted of 210 undergraduate students among whom a sample of 136 students was selected in a simple stratified way and finally 100 questionnaires were returned.
Findings: The findings of the study revealed that “students’ awareness of library services” (83%) is the most important factor effective in using the library. After this factor “students’ interest in using the library and reading" (76%), the “librarians’ knowledge and experiments in identifying users’ needs” (70%) and the “quietness of reading room” (70%) are the next most important factors which affect the use of the library studied. By applying the factor analysis method, these factors were divided into seven main categories.
