The Relation Between Organizational Culture and Organizational Structure in the National Library and Archives Organisation of I.R. Iran

Abstract

Purpose: The aim of this research is to determine the relation between organizational culture and organizational structure in the National Library and Archives Organisation of Iran.
Design/Design/Methodology/ Approach: Using three questionnaires (demographic features - 8 questions, Robbins organizational culture- 30 questions, and Sashkin and Morris organizational structure - 12 questions) the viewpoints of 416 of a total of 609 staff with at least an associate degree, were studied.
Findings: There is a positive and significant correlation between the components of organizational culture and the dimensions of organizational structure, especially mechanical structure. Organizational structure is more inclined toward the mechanical dimension (with an average of 3.61) and is less inclined toward the organic dimension (with an average of 2.76). The organizational culture of the National Library and Archives of Iran is in an average level from the viewpoint of its staff.
Conclusion: Since there is a positive and significant relation between organizational culture and organizational structure and there is an inclination toward a mechanical structure in the National Library and Archives Organisation of Iran, considerable effort must be made to make the structure of this organization flexible.
