Are Expensive Books also Deposited? A Review on Implementation of Rules of Books Depository in the National Library of Iran During the years 2002-2011

Abstract

Purpose: The aim of this study is to determine the rate of books depository in the National
Library of Iran during the years 2002-2011. It also tries to detect the shortcomings and to
provide solutions for them.
Design/Methodology/Approach: This study enjoys practical analytical survey method.
Findings: From the 531,400 titles recorded in the database of printed books of Iran Book
House, 73.8% are deposited to the National Library of Iran. Publishers in Tehran have
deposited 69.4% of the total of 398,000 printed titles and the other publishers nationwide
have deposited 86.8% of their total 133,400 published titles to the National Library of Iran.
Conclusion: There is a significant difference between the rate of book depository of publishers
in Tehran and the rest of publishers nationwide. There is also a significant fluctuation
depositing different subjects of books from year to year. In addition there is a
considerable distinction in the average price of deposited and non-deposited titles during
the mentioned 10 years.
