Evaluation of Information Seeking Anxiety of Islamic Azad University Postgraduate Students in Kerman Branch

Abstract

PurposeInformation seeking anxiety is a condition caused by too much information or lack of correct meaning Information is created that can have an adverse effect on people's ability to explore information and meet their information needs. The main objective of this research is to study information seeking anxiety among the students of Islamic Azad University.

Methodology: This study was conducted through a survey. Population examined in this study are post graduated students of Islamic Azad University, Kerman branch. According to statistics obtained from the university in 3862 were post graduate student already studying in the university. The sample size for the study was based on a total population of 350 according to Morgan Table and Stratified sampling method was used to select the sample Including students of Islamic Azad University, branch of Kerman. The Efanmanesh, Abrizah & Karim's Information Seeking Anxiety Questionnaire Inventory was used to collect research data which was organized with six main components of anxiety with an emphasis on information: The barriers to dealing with the barriers to computing resources information; The barriers to dealing with the Internet and computer; The barriers to dealing with the library.(4) The barriers associated with barriers to information seeking; the barriers of obstacles technical issues related to barriers related to the issue. Friedman's test was used to check the difference between the average components of information seeking anxiety. To check questions of research use single sentence (T) and fridman test.

Findings: According to the chi square test value which is equal to (244.290) and the significant value which is equal to (0.000) and smaller than the significance level and it is high. It can be said that the average of the six components of information seeking anxiety has a significant difference. Also significant differences based on the results of the component "barriers to intelligence sources", the most influential and "barriers to information seeking" information seeking has less effect on anxiety.

Conclusion: The results obtained with an awareness of the importance of each of the components this would indicate that the average difference between the level of seeking anxiety among students of Kerman Azad University and it is in the top size. The factor of "barriers to intelligence sources", plays an important role in this research, and it is necessary to plan properly to make better use of them. Students may face anxiety, fear and apprehension to do some of their activities. They may face fear and concern in the field of how to use information resources, use the library, use the computer and the Internet, search for some information, methods of choosing the subject, or even many technical issues. Training information exploration skills, making information sources available directly, strengthening the ability to information retrieval, training information literacy and proper interaction of librarians with users are among the strategies to reduce anxiety.
