Abstract

Purpose: The aim of this article is to introduce the theoretical aspects of visualization and the analysis of data visualization and information visualization.
Design/Methodology/Approach: The study was conducted through the study of related information resources and the comparison and qualitative analysis of the role of visualization.
Findings: The major application of visualization in Library and Information Science is creating and improving visual communication in the design of user interfaces and also optimizing the information retrieval process. The topics used in studying visualization have been taken over from computer graphics and these topics lead to the better transfer of information. One of the more important applications of visualization is in the virtual environment in which it has made use of the technological advances in digital space. Furthermore, the various categories of visualization and its two main types i.e. data and information visualization are described.
Conclusion: Visualization has an effective role in the understanding of information and there are considerable differences between data visualization and information visualization; however, these two terms are used interchangeably in some articles.
