Abstract

Purpose: the aim of this study is studying the consistency in manuscript description in Islamic manuscript databases from three stand points: cataloging, consistency in titles, subjects, and the name of authors and scripter's and metadata schema.
Method: the method used in this study is descriptive survey. First we detected online Islamic manuscript databases and then through mailing to responsible persons in this databases and published reports and articles about database design and development, we could acquire information related to manuscripts description in 17 databases.
Findings: findings of this study showed that in cataloging, AACR and AMREMM were used more than others and among metadata standards, TEI were used more frequently in databases. In terms of using standards tools and sources for making consistency in subjects and names, databases were not use from any common tool or source.
Conclusion: in terms of manuscript description in Islamic manuscript databases the rate of consistency was low and they should pay more attention for making consistent content.
