Purpose: Common cultural, religious, and historical backgrounds, as well as geographical proximity among members of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), require identifying factors enhancing and facilitating of cooperation among their national libraries. The present paper suggests a number of strategies for such cooperation.
Method: Analysis is based on thorough examination of a wide range of documents relating to the ten member state national libraries.
Findings: Common language, alphabet, institutional affiliations, common religion, literature and shared resources were substantiated. Catalogs, multi-language bibliographies, and standard abstracts are recommended to promote collaboration. To implement this, it is necessary to develop shared standards. Collaboration is required to share scientific and cultural heritage.
