Purpose: The purpose of the present research is to determine the compatibility rate of ISBD punctuation employed in Cataloguing in Publication (CIP) catalog cards of National Library and Archives of Iran with those employed in Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules.
Methodology/Approach: This is a survey of content analysis type and a researcher-made questionnaire has been employed to gather data. Data analysis has been performed using descriptive statistics such as frequency and percentage.
Results: Data analysis indicated that some 37.71% of CIP cards of NLAI had punctuation errors and some 55.26% had errors related to spaces before and after the punctuation. The punctuation dot, space, dash, space (.-) before publication, distribution, etc. area with 65.12% had the least, and the same punctuation before edition area with some 98.84% had the most compatibility rate with ISBD punctuation employed in AACR2.
Conclusion: based on research findings, it can be concluded that NLAI has almost been successful in observing ISBD punctuation in CIP catalog cards.
