Purpose: To investigate Persian references of Persian articles transliterated into Latin available in Iranian journal databases.
Methodology: Content analysis and survey among 30 selected journals of Iran Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, Ministry of Health and Medical Education and Islamic Azad University between 2005 and 2015. Only issues having references transliterated into Latin were studied and analysed using descriptive statistics.
Results: Mistakes in transliteration into Latin are seen in writing name and family name, article title, date of publication and journal name. The wrong transliteration of author names, mistakes in converting dates from Solar to Georgian calendar, incomplete article title and wrong abbreviations of journal title are the main mistakes.
Conclusion: Transliteration of Persian references into Latin causes increase in retrieval time, less accuracy, failure in finding the resources and reduction of impact factor in Iranian journal databases.
