Purpose: Investigating the role of Roger's diffusion of innovation theory and organization's readiness factors on the adoption of PREMIS based on members' viewpoints of Consortium of National Content.
Methodology/Approach: This is an applied research using survey method. The population consists of 19 numbers of the largest and the most significant libraries in Iran having digital content in the Consortium of National Content.
Results: According to experts' views, relative advantage with an average of 4, compatibility with an average of 3.5, organization’s readiness with an average of 3.46, observability with an average of 3.43, complexity with an average of 3.2 and trialability with an average of 3.06 had been respectively the most effective factors in employing PREMIS. Therefore, based on Roger's theory, organization's readiness to adopt PREMIS is above the average.
Conclusion: Using PREMIS is consistent with common values, previous experiences and potential users' needs. However, there exists complexity in understanding and using it. Since it is possible for organizations to examine and evaluate PREMIS even before adopting it and also the outcome of using it is noticeable, organizations expressed their readiness for adopting it.

Purpose: Matching value engineering steps with available processes in resource acquisition policies in libraries. Methodology/Approach: Content analysis. First the value engineering phases (information gathering, functional analysis, creativity, evaluating, development, and presentation) were introduced. In the next step, collection development procedures were presented and ultimately the value engineering phases were matched with different processes in collection development consisted of acquisition of resources, constitution of selection and acquisition committee, writing acquisition policy, selection of resources and equipment, selecting dealer, budget allocation, and order and supply section. Results: Value engineering steps match with library processes like selection, collection, organization, evaluation, acquisition and the management of library resources' provision. Therefore, it can be used in libraries. Conclusion: By scientifically employing value engineering in all parts and projects of libraries, there will be a save in budget and human resources and eventually the utmost efficiency will be achieved with minimum costs.

Purpose: To study the user's search behavior on the web and the impact of wholist-analytic cognitive styles, task types and search experience on their performance.
Methodology/Approach: This is an applied research using mixed methodology approach. The qualitative part is analyzed using content analysis and for the quantitative part survey is employed. The population consists of 44 researchers in different science fields. Data collected using Riding's Cognitive Style Analysis test, Web experience questionnaire and three search tasks.
Results: There exist some differences in search behavior of people with wholist and analytic cognitive styles, such that wholists use more search strategies for fulfilling tasks compared to analytic users. Also, search performance of two groups was different. Analytic users spent more time and visited more nodes to accomplish their tasks. However, the statistical analysis shows no significant difference between wholist and analytic users regarding the number of visited nodes and the time spent on finishing a task. Moreover, there was no significant difference between task levels and also between cognitive styles and experience in number of visited nodes and the time spent to retrieve information. Also, the statistical result considering difference between task types and cognitive styles follows the same rule.
Conclusion: The research findings can help in better understanding users' web search behavior in terms of their cognitive styles; also the practical implication of the research is in user training and designing search tools. Besides, this research can be used in developing models for web search.

Purpose: To identify and explain the role of knowledge management in strategic planning from the viewpoints of managers and librarians of university libraries.
Methodology: 38 managers and 151 librarians working in central libraries of Tehran public universities were surveyed using a questionnaire.
Results: More than half of the people have agreed on Quintas et al. (1997) definition of knowledge management. Both managers and librarians were in agreement about the application of knowledge management in strategic planning and believed that the best way to promote future in libraries is to employ knowledge management in planning. They regarded the application of knowledge management in strategic planning of their organization in respectively policy and decision making, information services planning, model production and thinking.
Conclusion: The difference between the viewpoints of managers and librarians of university libraries about the knowledge management concept in strategic planning is understandable. Any new term or study area causes logical doubts. However, the differences were not statistically significant.

Purpose: To identify the status of Iranian digital libraries' metadata in terms of semantic integration and proposing suggestions to improve their semantic relations. Methodology/Approach: It's a descriptive study using survey. The population consists of all active digital libraries around Iran (32 libraries), 26 of them cooperated with this survey. Data gathered using a self-designed questionnaire and the validity is guaranteed by experts. Results: The focus of digital libraries is on textual resources and little consideration has been toward non-textual and multimedia resources. These libraries are not in a suitable situation considering digital resources coverage and metadata fields completion. Necessary fields in semantic integration like index keywords, ISBN, ISMN and DOI are not regarded in metadata fields. Also, authorization of metadata fields' content is not satisfying. For example, fields related to authors, publishers and keywords are not authorized. Conclusion: Iranian digital libraries are not in a proper condition regarding semantic integration services; therefore, there needs to be a more focus on semantic relations in their metadata fields.

Purpose: To identify the role of Persian professional web-based networks in sharing knowledge among the users. Methodology: An analytical survey used with a questionnaire distributed among 370 active users of 10 web-based professional Persian social networks. Results: Users' main goal of joining these networks was to know other experts. Overall, domestic social networks' performance in meeting users' needs, persuading them to share knowledge, gaining their trust, increasing professional knowledge and enhancing users’ interaction is proven to be below the average. The biggest problems of domestic social networks are the lack of proper information and being less known regarding users' views. Conclusion: There is a significant and direct correlation between using professional Persian networks and knowledge sharing. There is a need for better informing people about these networks. In addition, the quality of these networks should be improved so that the users tend to share knowledge in them.

Purpose: To identify and evaluate Persian search engines' features, specify the best one regarding retrieving related information, precision and recall and their overlaps.
Methodology: It's an applied research using an analytical survey. Search features of 5 general and available Persian engines were compared using a self-designed checklist. The rate of retrieving related result was calculated based on 50 retrieved pages using 7 keywords and phrases separately. Also, the precision and recall with and without overlaps were measured. The extent to which engines had overlaps was acquired during calculating recall.
Results: Persian search engines have appropriate features so one can have confidence about their performance. There are siginificant differences between search engines regarding retrieving related information and precision. Those engines having more search features were more efficient in retrieving related information and had higher level of overlapping.
Conclusion: The identified gaps existed in search engines must be taken into consideration in order to support strengths and overcome weaknesses of these tools.

Data gathered using a questionnaire including three parts: internal, external and attitude factors. For Data analysis descriptive statistic, binomial test and Pearson correlation were used.
Results: 64 out of 80 librarians of AQL were LIS graduates. The average importance of internal, external and attitude factors were 4.09, 3.17 and 4.07 respectively. The result of binominal test also supported the importance of all factors with high confidence (95%). Also, a significant correlation was seen between internal factors and positive attitude of librarians. The noteworthy point is that librarians were well-informed about new technologies and was trying to conform to it.

Purpose: The status analysis of Arabic periodicals cataloging in National Library of Iran.
Methodology/Approach: 808 titles of Arabic periodicals in the National Library of Iran were analysed using comparative survey along with a checklist. Statistical hypothesis testing and binomial distribution were used for data analysis.
Results: Bibliographic analysis showed that the complete title and author description are appropriate but the appellation, title in other languages and other title information are not in a proper condition. Also, the region, place and date of publication are appropriate but the publication name, production place, appendices and parts of periodicals are not. The title key is proper unlike the note parts. The classification reflects subject dispersal and is somehow appropriate. The most and the least frequencies are related to History and Religion respectively.
Conclusion: Using Anglo-American rules in Arabic periodicals' organization in the National Library of Iran is in a poor condition.
